Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and BJP’s two candidates — Madan Rathore and Chunnilal Garasiya — are likely to win uncontested the biennial Rajya Sabha elections in Rajasthan as the three contestants filed their papers on three vacant seats when filing of nominations ended at 3 pm today.
BJP’s Rathore and Garasiya filed their nominations after getting a warm welcome at BJP Legislative Party Meeting in Vidhan Sabha lobby. The two leaders were also felicitated at party office by senior leaders including former CM Vasundhara Raje and MLA and state party president C P Joshi among others.
Ms Gandhi filed her papers yesterday.

A set of nomination papers proposed and seconded by MLAs including Raje, CM Bhajan Lal Sharma and two deputy CMs Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa were submitted to the Election Officer and Assembly Secretary Mahavir Prasad Sharma, Assembly PRO Lokesh Sharma told The Statesman here.
Of the 200 members of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, the ruling BJP has a strength of 115 MLAs, Congress 70, Bharatiya Tribal Party 3, BSP 2, RLD & RLP one each and 8 Independents. Hence, the BJP will have victory in two seats, and the Congress one, if the election goes uncontested on February 27.
